Many of us struggle in relationships with members of our family and yet desire harmony with them. Our bond that is created with them through childhood, can last throughout adulthood, making us vulnerable to what they think and say to us. If we grew up like millions of Americans in a dysfunctional family, we will have emotional wounds.

I recently finished writing my third book, Good Things, Love Emotional Healing Journal (scheduled for publication in 2012!). I felt inspired to share a few important things I have found to be helpful in understanding what real love is, and to know when our thoughts, words and behaviors are loving.

A study done January 5, 2009, at Atlanta Emory University, showed that severe childhood trauma-including sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect was associated with a sixfold increase in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Harvard Medical School professor Anthony L. Komaroff, an expert on CFS, says that childhood trauma alters brain chemistry in a way that makes some people more vulnerable to this syndrome. *
